"Nossos Bosques" - Print
Poster of a collection of Brazilian fauna with the sentence: “Nossos bosques têm mais vida”. This phrase means “our forests have more life” and it comes from a famous poem called “Canção do Exílio” by Gonçalves Dias - a known poet in Brazil. This poem is so famous that the sentence was adopted into our national anthem.
“Why all these tribal marks on their faces?”
For me, animals are powerful, resilient, and greatly disregarded nowadays. People have become so disconnected from nature that we are more stressed and depressed than ever. However, when I observe animals, I feel warmth and a profound sense of connection, as if we are part of a vast circle of life.
Humans once revered animals as gods thousands of years ago. By inscribing tribal marks on their bodies, I elevate them to this sacred status, reminding us that they are much more than mere creatures. They embody strength, resilience, power, permanence, and uniqueness. Because of these qualities, we should protect and revere them just as people do their respective deities. Nature was here before us and will remain long after we are gone. Tell me there’s no power in that!
